Choose your hardware

For maximum durability, especially if your dog swims, gets very dirty or if your gear is often exposed to water, sand, mud or salt, stainless steel is the best choice.

It's the most resistant option to moisture, wear and outdoor conditions.

Black hardware is our most popular finish for its modern look. It's beautiful, but keep in mind that it's a painted finish.

With rubbing, tags, snaps, sand or abrasion, the paint can chip over time. If the piece then stays exposed to water or moisture for a long time, small rust spots may appear.

Our gear is made for real life outdoors, when it's time to be outdoors. To make it last for years: avoid leaving it outside permanently, don't leave it lying on the ground unnecessarily, and hang it up to dry after big outings.

3 Reasons to Double-Check Your Measurements

1️⃣ Because your bestie deserves a perfect fit. A collar that sits right = comfort, safety, and no rubbing.
2️⃣ Because you’re going to love it so much… sending it back would break your heart. 🥹No one wants to fall in love then wait for the mail again.
3️⃣ Because our handcrafted, locally made collars are meant for adventures — not round trips to the post office.

💌 Returns are costly, slow things down, and honestly… you deserve better than that.

Low-maintenance & long-lasting

A splash of water, a little soap — and that's it.

Our Biothane gear gets its shine back in seconds, with no odour and no effort. Waterproof, durable and handmade in Canada, it's ready for all your next adventures.

As for hardware, our parts are chosen for their strength and durability. But like any mechanism used in real life — a snap, a carabiner, a hinge or a gear — they need a little maintenance to keep working smoothly for years.

After outings in sand, mud, snow, salt or water, it's normal for a snap to collect small debris and close less smoothly if it's never cleaned. They're not magic parts: they're good parts, but they live outdoors with your dog.

To extend their life, rinse the hardware with clean water after big outings. Use a stronger stream of water if sand, salt or mud is stuck in the mechanism. Let it dry completely, then use compressed air if needed to remove residue. A small drop of metal-safe lubricant can also help if the mechanism becomes less smooth.

Always inspect snaps before use. Simple maintenance, done at the right time, helps your gear stay beautiful, safe and enjoyable to use for a long time.

About Biothane®

Biothane is a high-performance, TPU-coated nylon webbing engineered to withstand different weather conditions. Waterproof, odour-proof, and a breeze to clean, Biothane holds up through mud, snow, rain, and everything else our unpredictable Canadian weather brings.

⚠️ Important: The TPU layer is not chew-proof. Just like traditional nylon or leather leashes and long lines, it can easily be damaged if your pup chews on it.

Because of this, never allow your dog to chew on their lead, and never leave them tethered unsupervised. If a dog happens to run off while dragging a long line, they need to be able to get loose in an emergency.

✔️ BioThane is built for outdoor adventures—not for chewing. If the webbing becomes damaged, we highly recommend replacing it to ensure your dog’s safety.

Dog car safety: what you need to know

This dog seat belt tether is designed to keep your dog secured in the vehicle, limit their movement on the seat and reduce distractions while driving.

It is not crash-tested and should not be presented as a device that protects against injury in a collision.

For a higher level of protection in an accident, choose a system specifically designed and tested for car travel, such as a rigid travel crate suited to your dog and properly secured in the vehicle, or a car harness system that has passed independent crash testing.

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association strongly recommends using rigid, safe travel containers that are securely fastened in the vehicle. When a rigid crate isn't available or can't be used, it recommends a crash-tested harness and restraint system. CVMA

Provincial road-safety agencies such as the SAAQ also recommend never leaving an animal loose in the vehicle. Depending on its size, they recommend using a harness, a barrier or a securely fastened travel crate. SAAQ

So what is the Tanzo tether for?

The Tanzo tether is first and foremost a restraint device to manage your dog's movement in the car.

It lets you:

  • keep your dog on their seat;
  • prevent them from moving toward the driver;
  • limit distractions while driving;
  • stop your dog from jumping out suddenly when a door is opened;
  • offer a simple solution for everyday trips when your dog is wearing a harness.

It must always be attached to a well-fitted harness, never directly to the collar.

Is this a crash-tested dog seat belt?

No.

The Tanzo seat belt tether has not been crash-tested, and we do not claim that it protects a dog against the forces generated in an accident.

This distinction matters: a tether can stop a dog from moving freely around the vehicle without being an approved or crash-tested protection system.

Independent testing by the Center for Pet Safety shows that the performance of pet restraint devices varies enormously. The organization recommends using crates, carriers or harnesses that have been specifically tested/certified, and securing crates with straps of appropriate strength. Center for Pet Safety

What is the safest way to transport a dog in the car?

When it suits the dog and the vehicle, a suitable, properly secured rigid travel crate is an excellent option.

But not all crates are equal: simply using a crate doesn't mean it will withstand a collision. Independent testing has shown that some crates or their anchor points can fail on impact. It's best to look for a product specifically designed for car travel that has undergone independent crash testing. Center for Pet Safety

A practical solution for everyday trips

Our Biothane tether was created for owners who want to keep their dog secured and better control their movement in the vehicle, while enjoying a durable, waterproof and easy-to-clean accessory.

Handmade in Canada, it resists water, mud and odours and adjusts easily to the space available in your vehicle.

Key takeaway:
This tether helps restrain your dog and limit distractions. It is not crash-tested. For protection specifically designed for a collision, choose a crate or car restraint system that has undergone independent crash testing.
